  Description of Seminar/Conference

August 10: Advanced Clicker Skills: Shaping and Targeting
Ready to move into teaching more difficult or complex tricks or performance sport behaviors? Wanting to move beyond reliance on lure-reward training techniques? In this workshop, you will expand your clicker skills and train advanced behaviors using shaping and targeting. Increasing the use of these skills improves your dog’s speed in learning and understanding criteria for new behaviors.

Attendees will work on already started or "wish list" behaviors of their choice as well as instructor-guided exercises.

Topics will include:

  • Shape, Target or Lure?
  • Considerations in Capturing
  • Breaking Down Complex Behaviors
  • Creating a Flexible Training Plan
  • When and How to Raise Criteria
  • Adding Cues to Shaped Behaviors
  • Trouble-Shooting Sessions

Sunday: Rally Freestyle Elements (Rally-FrEe): Intermediate and Advanced Levels
Rally-FrEe competitors are raving about this new sport that combines a traditional rally-o format with tricks and freestyle behaviors. In this segment of the workshop, you will learn how to interpret and execute the Intermediate and Advanced level signs. In the working sessions, you will use shaping and targeting skills to train a variety of Rally-FrEe behaviors. You will also have an opportunity to run courses including Intermediate and Advanced level signs.
