This presentation demonstrates the step by step process to effectively train exceptional and reliable retrieve behavior via Clicker Training. These steps have been proven to work with a variety of breeds and temperaments, resulting in retrieves that are both enjoyed by the dog and performed with precision and reliability. This presentation includes an alternate method of Clicker Retrieve Training.
In any sport or fun activity with one’s dog, training a reliable retrieve is a common challenge for many handlers. Individual dogs can also present challenges to handlers who have been very successful in training the retrieve with their previous dogs.
This presentation is for anyone involved in training retrieve behavior in dogs for any of the following goals:
• A reliable retrieve with precision criteria for competitive dog sports
• A practical and reliable retrieve for working service or assistance dogs
• An interactive play retrieve with easy delivery to the human partner
As a traditional trainer from the 1970’s to 1990’s, Michele personally trained over 350 guide dogs and obedience dogs to retrieve via compulsive methods. In 1999, Michele began experimenting with positive reinforcement training and more specifically clicker training. Her massive light bulb moment of realizing the power in effective Clicker Training was when she trained her 5 horses to enthusiastically retrieve in one weekend. That was a turning point in her dog training beliefs and started her on a clicker training journey. After she trained a few competitive obedience retrieves and a few service dog retrieves, with amazing results, she focused on helping others to learn how to train the retrieve with effective clicker training.
